A Jamaican man who stabbed his partner to death in the Cayman Islands has been sentenced to 13 years in jail.

In July 2007, 36-year-old Colin Scott, also known as Sheldon Scott, stabbed Maureen Grant; three times after she told him she was leaving him for another man.

In court, Mr. Scott pleaded not guilty to a charge of murder but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter.

The manslaughter plea was entered on the basis of provocation.

The crown accepted the plea and found Mr. Scott guilty of the offence.
