The United States is considering using its National Guard to prevent drug related violence in Mexico from spilling over into its border.
The BBC reports that governors within borders adjoining Mexico have expressed growing concern over the impact of Mexican cartels that have links with gangs in the US.
It is believed that many of the turf wars in violent parts of Mexico is fueled by weapons smuggled from the US.
There were more than 6,000 drug-related killings in Mexico in 2008.
