Madoff investigations widens

Investigators in the US have now turned their attention to other persons believed to be involved in financier Bernard Madoff’s US$50B fraud scheme.



Madoff was jailed yesterday on fraud charges.



While Madoff insists he acted alone, prosecutor Lev Dassin said he is investigating if others had joined in the crime.



Investigators continue to work to see how much of the stolen funds can be recovered.



Madoff has been remanded in jail ahead of his sentencing on June 16.



The prosecutor rejected speculation that Madoff had agreed to plead guilty in exchange for leniency to help any others who may have been involved in the crime.
