Spencer accuses opposition of power struggle

Prime Minister Baldwin Spencer has accused the opposition Antigua Labour Party (ALP) of making a desperate bid for power.

At least one member named to the Cabinet has reportedly expressed reservations about his appointment.

Spencer’s United Progressive Party (UPP) holds a narrow two-seat edge over the ALP in parliament following last Thursday’s general election.

Mr Spencer said some of his MPs have been offered substantial sums of money to abandon the government benches and shift the balance of power to the Opposition.

However, Mr Spencer said he is certain that none of his party’s representatives would get involved with a move to destabilise the government.
