The police in Grenada have detained three men in connection with a weekend incident in which a Catholic priest suffered bodily injuries to his head and chest.

The three men were picked up by police yesterday following Saturday night’s attempted robbery, which occurred at the home of Catholic priest Father Martiniaus Chileke, in the rural village of Birchgrove.

Police say the Nigerian priest, who has been serving in Grenada for the past three years, was stabbed in the chest.

He also sustained injuries to his head and arm after he was apparently slammed to the ground on several occasions during the attack.

The Bishop of the Catholic Faith in Grenada, Vincent Darius has condemned the act and questioned the motive for what he described as a dreadful crime.
