The Guyana government has filed a complaint with the United Nations Human Rights Commission, about a report done by a UN expert on minority issues in Guyana.

UN expert on minority issues, Gay McDougall, visited Guyana in July 2008 to assess the status of the country\'s minority groups.

The Bharrat Jagdeo administration said Ms. McDougall who had a mandate to focus on all minorities in Guyana, concentrated exclusively on Guyanese of African descent.

She was expected to focus on several areas including political participation, protection against violence, equality and protection of cultural identity.

The head of the Presidential Secretariat Roger Luncheon said the government has rejected the report because Ms McDougall only examined the concerns of Afro Guyanese and neglected the other minority groups.
