St Kitts tax amnesty

The government of St. Kitts & Nevis has offered taxpayers a six month amnesty.

Finance Minister Timothy Harris says the government is offering taxpayers with arrears the opportunity to pay off their taxes without interest or penalties.

Those in arrears have been told that they have until the end of September to settle all outstanding debts.

Mr. Harris says the amnesty should legitimize delinquent taxpayers and evaders.

He says the move will also widen the tax net, yield improved revenue intake over time and reduce the likelihood of tax increases.
