Spend more on hospitals

The World Health Organization (W-H-O) is calling for countries to spend more on hospital safety.

The W-H-O is targeting countries in disaster-prone areas, in a bid to ensure that buildings are not damaged when needed most.

It said the cost of constructing or renovating buildings able to withstand earthquakes, floods, and strong winds is insignificant, when compared with the cost of having hospitals collapse in the midst of a disaster.

According to an official of the organization, experience in Latin America and the Caribbean show that a sound facility will cost no more than one percent of the hospital\'s budget.
