The worsening financial crisis has prompted calls for regional governments to provide some form of financial assistance for the construction industry.

One contractor, Elved Roberts of Antigua, said he has been forced to lay off workers as business has slowed.

He says if the situation does not improve, the company will be forced to cut more jobs.

Mr. Roberts has also expressed uncertainty as to the future of his business once ongoing projects are concluded.

He says the governments must provide a massive stimulus package to assist stakeholders in the industry.
