The US cargo ship Maersk Alabama is now heading to port in Mombasa, Kenya, a day after it was hijacked off Somalia\'s coast.

Officials said an 18-man armed security detail is on board the ship to make sure the vessel and the 20 crew members get to Kenya safely.

However FBI negotiators are still trying to secure the release of the ship’s captain, who is still being held by the Somali hijackers in a lifeboat.

The pirates reneged on their agreement to exchange the captain for one pirate who had been captured by the crew members.

But the pirate was released unharmed.

Maersk Spokeman, Kevin Speers said the company is coordinating with the Navy and all the governmental organizations involved in this crisis.

The Maersk Alabama was on its way to the Kenyan port of Mombasa loaded with food aid when the pirates attacked yesterday morning.
