The government of Trinidad and Tobago said more than 2,000 persons have been deported from the United States within the past six years.

According to the National Security Minister, Martin Joseph there has been a progressive increase in the number of persons deported from 220 in 2002 to 350 in 2007.

Mr. Joseph said at least 156 of the deportees had been arrested on criminal activities since their deportation.

Trinidad and Tobago and other regional countries are blaming the influx of deportees from the United States and other countries, for the increased level of criminal activities in the region.
