Eleven Somali men accused of piracy are to stand trial in a Kenyan court.

French commandos captured the men last week after an attempt to hijack a Liberian tanker.

The Somalis will be handed over to Kenyan authorities for prosecution under a special agreement with the European Union.

The accused men are expected to appear in court next week Wednesday.

Somali-based pirates have reportedly attacked more than 80 ships and hijacked at least 20 other vessels, collecting millions of dollars in ransom since the start of the year.
