Guyana has travel ban

The Government of Guyana has advised citizens to avoid travelling to countries affected by the swine flu virus.

Yesterday, world health authorities also decided to call the virus by its scientific name H1N1 instead of swine flu.

They say the term swine flu is causing confusion that pigs are infected with the virus.

Meanwhile Guyana’s health minister Dr Leslie Ramsammy, says enough protective gear and medicines are available in case of an outbreak.

Authorities in Georgetown are also on the look out for incoming travelers with flu-like symptoms.

Airlines and ships are now required to make an aircraft and ship health declaration.

Dr Ramsammy says testing for HINI will be done with assistance from the Caribbean Epidemiology Centre and the US Centre for Disease Control.
