Voters in the Cayman Islands have given approval to a new constitution.
Official results from the Elections Office in the Cayman Islands show that 62.6 percent of voters approved the revised document.
More than 11 thousand of the 15 thousand registered voters cast ballots in the referendum, which was the first in the British territory.
The constitution creates the post of premier, who will in the future be limited to two consecutive terms, and grants more autonomy from Britain.
The election took place at the same time as a general election.
Voters ousted the government of the People\'s Progressive Movement led by Kurt Tibbetts and replaced it with new leader of government business, McKeeva Bush and his United Democratic Party.
