A Barbadian is among three persons shot and killed by police during a reported shoot-out in St. Vincent last night.

Police said Dwayne Brian Hubert was shot after police personnel went to the Vermont community following a tip off that he was hiding in the area.

They said when he got to the area, shots were fired at them and in the ensuing gun-battle, Hubert and two unidentified men were killed.

A 9-millimetre pistol was reportedly recovered.

The police said they’re continuing to search the area for other weapons used by the men.

The incident comes after Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves announced a major anti-crime operation to combat illegal marijuana cultivation, as well as to break-up a known criminal ring in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The police said they will be holding a news conference on Monday to provide further details on the shooting.
