At least 26 people have been evacuated in the capital city of the province of Santiago de Cuba due to heavy rain.

The town of El Boniato suffered the most damage with some houses completely under water and landslides in Quintero.

The head of the information center of the Civil Defence Council, Jorge Carlos Rigñack, said an evacuation center has been opened and is already receiving residents.

He said all measures are in place to help the evacuees, protect human lives, and safeguard economic and social assets in the province.
