The Bahamas Government has launched a Border Control programme that should assist law enforcement officials in uncovering immigration fraud.

The National Security Minister, Tommy Turnquest said the programme would be aimed at detecting organised crimes and illegal migrant smuggling.

He said the government has taken decisive steps to address transnational crime by intensifying the resources of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

He also said the Department of Immigration and the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, will be increasing joint operations to reduce the number of illegal migrants in the country.

He said the illegal trans-border activities could be linked to the number of crimes committed in the country.
