Earthquake strikes Greece

An earthquake with a magnitude of more than 6.5 on the Richter scale has hit southern Greece.



According to seismologists the earthquake’s epicentre was beneath the seabed off Kalamata, approximately 140 miles south of the capital, Athens.



Witnesses in Athens said the earthquake lasted at least 15 seconds.



Officials said the tremor was felt as far away as Cairo, in Egypt.



There have been no reports of casualties or damage.



The last serious earthquake in Greece is said to have killed more than 100 people in September 1999.
