The President of Chad has imposed a 15 day nation wide state of emergency.

President Idriss Deby said the state of emergency is needed to restore order, after the recent takeover attempt in the capital.

It will include a nighttime curfew and controls on the movements of vehicles.

Under the state of emergency, house searches and controls on the private and public press will also be authorised.

Chad claims the rebels are being backed by Sudan.
