One manager for SDF, IPL
Major Desmon Brown, the general manager of Independence Park Limited, has been put in charge of the Sports Development Foundation (SDF), but on a temporary basis.
Brown's interim leadership of the SDF follows the expiration of Ludlow Watts' contract on March 31.
The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture says it is in the process of reorganising both agencies, and that Brown's dual role would facilitate those plans.
The Government of Jamaica is in the process of reshaping the public sector - to cut down on its size as well as cost - a programme that includes the winding up of non-operational entities, but also the merger of agencies whose roles are similar.
Brown's interim appointment took effect April 1.
Garcia now NCBcompany secretary
National Commercial Bank Jamaica Limited's chief counsel Dave L. Garcia has also been appointed company secretary, effective March 1. Garcia, who runs the bank's general counsel division, is the driver of legal strategy and responsible for regulatory oversight.
Joy Douglas seated
Richard Clarke has quit the board of tourism and property management company, Montego Freeport Limited, effective March 31.
Joy Douglas, general manager of Urban Development Corporation (UDC), has filled the vacant seat, effective April 1.
Smaller JCDC board
A new, but smaller, 16-member board has been appointed to oversee the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC), a state institution, with Hugh Nash retaining the chairmanship.
The appointments, made public on Thursday, took effect February 1.
The former board had 30 members, but "a deliberate effort was made" to reduce its size because of resource constraints, according to Olivia Grange, the minister responsible for youth, sports and culture.
The JCDC, which is funded by the Treasury, was allocated a budget of $195 million for this fiscal year, down from the near $270 million a year ago.
The other 15 members of the new board are Rochelle Cameron, deputy chair; Howard McIntosh; Syl Castro; Eddie Shoucair; Jennifer Lim; Cheryl Ryman; Dennis Archer; Cecil Warren; Nancy McLean; Kenneth Shaw; Geoffrey Shields; Bishop Ronald Blair; Vernon Derby; Delroy Morgan; and Dorothy Carter-Bradford.
