The start of the prestigious IAAF World Championships in Athletics in Daegu, South Korea, is a week away, but Jamaica's flag is already flying high on the Asian continent.

Athletes at the 26th staging of the Universiade, the World University Games in Shenzhen, China, bagged three medals yesterday - two gold and a bronze - to bring their tally to seven.

On the track, Anneisha McLaughlin and Rasheed Dwyer mined gold in the women's and men's 200 metres finals, respectively.

McLaughlin, a 2009 World Championships finalist, now attending the University of Technology, clocked a personal best 22.54 seconds to take the half-lap event.

Jamaica captured two of the three medals - first and third - in the men's 200m.

Dwyer, of G.C. Foster College, took the event in a personal best 20.20, running out of lane three. His compatriot, Jason Young of the University of the West Indies, shared the silver medal with Thuson Mpuang of South Africa as they both clocked 20.59.
