The Federal Transit Administration has provided the US Virgin Islands Public Works Department with grant funding totaling $400,000.

The grant will allow the department to develop new and expanded transportation projects that enhance access to employment opportunities for low-income individuals.

The funds will finance transportation for workers with non-traditional work schedules or promote the use of transit vouchers for welfare recipients and eligible low-income individuals.

Department of Public Works Commissioner, Darryl Smalls said the funding is also slated to promote shuttle services for employees from their residences to their work place.
