France denies genocide involvement
France has denied that its politicans and military helped, prepared and carried out the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
Rwanda’s ministry of justice released a report Tuesday, detailing the alleged role France played in the mass killings, which left 800,000 people dead over a 100 day period.
33 top French officials including former French president Francois Mitterand and French soliders were implicated in the kilings.
The report was compiled by an independent national commisison in Rwanda.
France has questioned the objectivity of the commission, which was formed to shed light on the role of France in the genocide of Tutsis in 1994.
In a statement yesterday, the French Foreign Ministry said there were no surprises in the conclusions of the commisision given its mission.
France has decried the contents of the report stating that it contains unacceptable accusations against its politicians and the military.
