The British Virgin Islands (BVI) and Australia have signed a Tax Information Exchange Agreement, which allows for full exchange of information pertaining to criminal and civil tax matters.

Officials say Australia is expected to remove any governmental references to the BVI as a tax haven, and will now list the territory as an information exchange country.

The agreement is said to reflect the two countries shared commitment to eliminate harmful tax practices.
