US reports first swine flu death

Officials in the United States have confirmed the death of a 23 month old child in Texas from the new strain of swine flu.



The toddler is the first person to die outside of Mexico, where at least 159 people have already died.



No details have been given on how the child may have contracted the virus or of the child\'s nationality.



Germany and Austria have detected their first cases of the virus and the United Kingdom and Spain have also confirmed new cases.



The World Health Organisation (WHO) has called a meeting of scientific experts to discuss the nature of the outbreak.
