WESTERN BUREAU:

Defending champions Montego Bay United (MBU) rebounded from Sunday's loss to defeat Rivoli United 3-0 in a rescheduled Red Stripe Premier League football game at Wespow Park yesterday to inch up the standings to 19 points.

Rivoli United continue to find it tough in spite of having good moments in the match, to remain on 15 points.

The champions took the lead in the 10th minute when Ronaldo Rodney beat Marlon Henry in the Rivoli goal after his defence failed to clear a right-sided corner.

missed chances

Rodney would pounce once more before the half-time break, when he smashed home a half volley in the 44th minute, following Dino Williams' pass over the defenders.

Williams scored the third when he controlled a pass from Winston Wilkinson and calmly slotted the ball past Henry for a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute.

"I think it is a good win, especially that we played at home," reasoned MBU head coach Carlos Garcia. "We are still not where we ideally want to be, but we are positioned to do well," he said.

Rivoli's Ross Burton had at least three clear chances to score, but was found wanting, as the Spanish Town-based club failed to really trouble Jacomeno Barrett in the goal for MBU.

The woeful finishing left coach Calvert Fitzgerald scratching his head.

"Maybe we didn't have enough time to recover from Sunday's game against Harbour View, as we were just not sharp at all today," he said.

"I know we can do better. In fact, I am confident we can do better. I think we just have to perform like that and score our chances to be taken seriously," said Fitzgerald.
