Davis, Planter face off on Wednesday

Tsetsi 'Lights Out' Davis and Ricardo Planter are no strangers to the Wray and Nephew Contender Boxing Series. Both Davis and Planter were among the first boxers to participate in Wray and Nephew White Overproof Rum's debut of the Contender in 2011.

Despite the fact that both had engaged in two previous series (2011 & 2013), they have not have the chance to fight each other. However, on Wednesday they will square off in the ring at the Chinese Benevolent Association (CBA).

Davis made it to the final in both 2013 and 2014 and placed second in both years as Devon Moncriffe and Sakima Mullings took the title of Wray and Nephew Contender Champion, respectively.

Davis is confident that 2015 will be his year, saying that "2015 is going to be the year for everyone to remember where I am coming from and to see where I am now," said Davis.

Planter noted that although this will be the first time he fights Davis in the Wray and Nephew Contender, they had both been fighting against each other in amateur boxing matches.

Planter gained his boxing licence in Miami in 2005 from the Florida Boxing Commission, four years before Davis acquired his licence in Jamaica in 2009.

A true sportsman, Planter acknowledged that his opponent was a good boxer. However, a determined Planter said he had increased his strength training and was planning to give his all on Wednesday:

"The fights are usually very close. Davis is a quick starter and I am always the one that has to close the game. This time, I am not going to allow him to get the first two rounds. I am going to make sure that after I am done with him, he is tired after the first two rounds, and this is my focus for Wednesday."

The highly anticipated match for both boxers will be shown live on Television Jamaica at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13.
