Diaspora conference countdown launched
With a few weeks to go before the sixth staging of the Biennial Diaspora Conference, The Gleaner Company, through its Power106 and Gleaner Online and print platforms, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, has launched a countdown to the conference, which will be featured across all its platforms.
Addressing the online launch, which was held in association with the Jamaica Information Service, Nordia Craig, manager for business development and marketing at The Gleaner, said the conference was an important one for the company because of its long history of diaspora engagement.
"Through our many print publications, as well as the Gleaner Online platforms and our Power 106 brands, we will demonstrate that The Gleaner continues to be invested in the fortunes of this country and its citizens wherever they reside," she said.
Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Arnaldo Brown said the conference would be seeking to draw on the talent of the diaspora to enhance efforts of nation building.
"Plans are far advanced for the staging of the Sixth Biennial Jamaica Diaspora Conference ... the conference remains the main platform for diaspora engagements. This year's conference has been positioned as a global forum, which will be action oriented. At the conclusion of the conference, the implementation council will monitor the execution of the conference recommendations," he said.

Brown also called for Jamaicans to play their part in the conference.
"As a country, we wish to strengthen the bonds and build mutually beneficial alliances with the diaspora. We invite all Jamaicans to join us in Montego Bay. Come and let us discuss business, trade, and investment opportunities. I invite you share with us ways in which we can expand the diaspora support in areas of health, education, and other areas of national development," he added.
