Noranda Bauxite hosted a graduation ceremony on Wednesday, September 30 at the Brown's Town/Discovery Bay Community College Campus, for 98 skilled technicians trained at two of its skills centres in its operating area in St Ann.

The centres, one at Discovery Bay and the other at its Water Valley mining location, are fully equipped by Noranda with

classes conducted by the Human Employment And Resource Training/National Training Agency (HEART/NTA) for local community residents. The students have been certified up to Level 11 in motor vehicle engine systems conducted at the Water Valley Centre, and welding courses at Discovery Bay.

The graduation exercise is the first from the Noranda/HEART programme and was addressed by Denworth Finikin, senior director at HEART, and Craig Thompson, engineering and CORE manager at the bauxite company. The centres are managed by HEART with tuition sponsored by Noranda.
