West Kingston Enquiry: Two soldiers imprisoned, two demoted following breaches during 2010 operations

Two members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) were demoted and two others sentenced to military prison as a result of their conduct during the May 2010 operations in Tivoli Gardens.
Lieutenant Colonel Jamie O'Gilvie told the West Kingston Commission of Enquiry that one of the soldiers was found guilty of making sexual advances on a woman while another was found guilty of physically abusing a man in the St Andrew community of Arnett Gardens.
They were both sentenced to 28 days in a military prison.
O'Gilvie said the Lance Corporals who were supervising them were found guilty of failing to provide proper supervision and were demoted to the rank of Private.
"A breach is a breach and we don't condone any breach," he insisted.
In one of the incident, he said a JDF vehicle with several soldiers on-board was driving through Arnett Gardens when a man shouted something at them.
He said an ex-soldier who witnessed the incident reported that the truck stopped and the soldiers got off and one of them physically abused the civilian.
