PNP and JLP denounce last night's killings in Portmore

Political representatives from both sides have condemned last night’s killings in Portmore.

Both the People’s National Party (PNP) Member of Parliament for East Central St Catherine, Arnaldo Brown, and the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) caretaker for the constituency, Alando Terrelonge, say violence has no place in the municipality or the wider society.

Brown says Newlands, which has had a history of violence, has been relatively quiet and peaceful for a long time and every effort must be taken to maintain it.

He says he stands against anyone who seeks to disturb the peace in his constituency.

Noting that the woman who was killed last night is a PNP supporter, Brown says he has concerns about the sequence of events that led to her death.

Meanwhile, Terrelonge has denounced the murders.

He says he is concerned about comments which have politicised the killings.

The JLP caretaker says the man who was fatally stabbed last night is said to be from a family that supports the Labour party.

According to him, some persons have characterised his death as a reprisal killing.

Terrolonge says he is disturbed by these utterances charging that they seek to create tension rather than bringing about calm.

He is calling for persons to be careful about their utterances about both incidents.
