Government pleased, 41 bills passed in House for 2015

The government is praising itself for what it calls the diligent work in the House of Representatives that led to the passing of 41 bills for 2015.

Leader of Government Business Phillip Paulwell, who made the disclosure, says in addition, 28 orders and resolutions were approved and 37 ministerial statements made.

Paulwell says the House passed the three bills required to enable Jamaica to de-link from the UK Privy Council and to subscribe to the Caribbean Court of Justice in its appellate jurisdiction.

Those bills are now before the Senate.

The Parliament also passed legislation to expand the options available to consumers of electricity by modernising the law relating to the sector, and approved the local government bills in November.

Paulwell also mentioned the passage of the Special Economic Zones Act, which seeks to implement a comprehensive regulatory framework for the operation of economic zones and special treatment of investors.
