High bills, lost earnings put taximen in a jam
MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
Two taxi drivers in Manchester say they have found themselves in a jam following the bad gas saga.
Taxi operator Denroy Hynes said he was forced to stay home for a number of days because his car was damaged by the bad gas.
"Right now, I need a gas pump, injector and a throttle body, and although I have a 1995 Toyota Corolla which may cause the parts to cost less, with everything I know, it's going to cost me maybe $20,000," he said.
Another operator, Kirk Bryan, says he has spent $5,500 to date. "I haven't spent much since this problem. I have only spent about $5,500 to change the gas pump, but I have the problem same way, the car bucking, not revving, and I can know when the gas is bad because it gives off this stench," said Bryan.
He added: "I lost about two days off the road because of the problem, and the mechanic is saying I will soon need an injector."
Bryan says the only reason he feels a bit safer is because he has an older model Toyota Corolla.
