Aston Villa claimed only their third win of the season in the Barclays Premier League but remain rooted to the foot of the table, eight points from safety. Joleon Lescott's headed goal at the end of a dire first half was Villa's first attempt on target. But Gabriel Agbonlahor doubled the lead after the break to send Norwich into the relegation zone.

Liverpool lost a two-goal lead after thousands of home fans walked out of Anfield in protest over an increase in ticket prices. The Reds led through goals by Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana. An estimated 10,000 fans were still leaving when Adam Johnson replied for struggling Sunderland and then Jermain Defoe stole an 89th-minute equaliser.

Leicester moved six points clear of rivals Manchester City at the top of the Barclays Premier League and five ahead of second-placed Tottenham with a shock win at the Etihad Stadium. Robert Huth scored the first of two goals early on before Riyad Mahrez added a second. Huth's second put Leicester in charge and they held on, despite Sergio Ag¸ero late reply.

Newcastle United claimed a timely and valuable victory to move out of the bottom three. Aleksandar Mitrovic scored the only goal in the 32nd minute, when he slotted in from inside the area. Newcastle also went close through Andros Townsend, whose shot hit the post, while Ben Foster denied Mitrovic.

Southampton earned their fourth win in five Barclays Premier League games, despite a third red card of the season for Victor Wanyama. Saints took the lead when Maya Yoshida converted Sadio Mane's cross. Wanyama received a straight red from referee Mark Clattenburg for diving in on West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet. The hosts survived a late scare when defender Cedric sliced a clearance narrowly past his own post.

Everton's revival continued when they moved up to seventh after beating Stoke, who suffered a third successive Barclays Premier League defeat. Romelu Lukaku put the visitors in front with a penalty after keeper Jack Butland had brought down Tom Cleverley. Seamus Coleman headed in a Cleverley corner and Aaron Lennon intercepted a pass before slotting in as Everton went 3-0 up at the break.

Crystal Palace ended a run of five straight defeats, thanks to Scott Dann's fifth goal of the season as Swansea slipped to four points above the Premier League relegation zone. Gylfi Sigurdsson's fine free kick gave Swansea a well-earned half-time lead. Palace equalised soon after the restart with Dann's close-range finish from a corner.

Tottenham Hotspur moved into second place in the Barclays Premier League table on Saturday as Kieran Trippier's first goal for the club completed a dominant win over Watford. The former Burnley full back tapped in substitute Dele Alli's fine low cross. Spurs were denied more goals by former keeper Heurelho Gomes.
