High school to start observing 'Lady Allen's Day'

The Horace Clarke High School (formerly Islington High School) in St Mary is to start observing 'Lady Allen's Day' annually. The announcement was made at the school's annual awards ceremony recently where Lady Allen, wife of Governor General Sir Patrick Allen who originates from the Islington community, delivered the keynote address.

The school's board chairman, Dr Robert Ffrench who made the revelation stated that the move was part of school improvement and rebranding efforts. He asserted that, Lady Allen's Day would be a motivational tool aimed at increasing the morale of students, teachers and members of the administrative staff.

Dr French further stated that it would be a much anticipated day when the school community would present its achievements and progress to Lady Allen as she interacts with students during classroom visits.

Meanwhile, Lady Allen in her address, advised that, "choice, not circumstances, determines one's success." In highlighting her childhood experience in the community, she stated: "You will have a lot of negative people who will tell you that you cannot achieve your dream because of your circumstances, but you have to make a choice and your choice is going to determine what your outcome will be."
