USA Under-17s arrive Sunday

The United States of America (USA) Under-17 football delegation is slated to arrive in the island on Sunday at 6:59 p.m. to play two practice games against Jamaica's Under 17-team.

Matches will be played on Wednesday, November 2 at Stadium East and Sunday, November 6 at Winchester Park, St George's College. Both matches are at 3 p.m. and entry is free of cost.

Since the start of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 1985, the USA has qualified for every single Under-17 FIFA World Cup, except for the edition in 2013.

The first time Jamaica beat the USA at any level was at the Under-17 stage in 2007 at the National Stadium, where Jamaica won 3-2 in the 2007 CONCACAF Under-17 tournament. Both Jamaica and the USA are utilising these two matches as vital preparation for the 2017 CONCACAF Under-17 Qualifiers to be played next April in Panama.

The USA team will have their first training session on Monday, November 1 at 3 p.m. at the University of the West Indies playing field, Mona Bowl. They will stage four training sessions whilst in the island.

Argentina, Uruguay reiterate co-hosting

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP):

The presidents of Argentina and Uruguay say they are still planning to go ahead with a bid to co-host the 2030 World Cup.

Argentina President Mauricio Macri says the South American neighbours "will work together to aspire to host the 2030 World Cup".

Soccer's next World Cup is in 2018 in Russia, followed by 2022 in Qatar. North America is the favourite to host the 2026 event, either by the United States alone, or in a bid with Mexico and Canada.

Macri and Uruguay President, Tabare Vazquez, spoke Monday at a joint news conference in the Argentine capital.

The 2030 World Cup will mark the 100-year anniversary of the event, which was first played in 1930 in Uruguay and won by the host nation.
