Out of reasoning with gospel singer Sasha and Rastafarian DJ Chuck Fenda comes a highly entertaining single entitled Real Talk, which is already enjoying heavy rotation on a number of local radio stations.

The song is in the form of playful banter alluding to a relationship between the two and the conflicts that accompany such a union.

Produced by Marvin and Black Pearl, the song is definitely worth a listen.

Born Karen Chin, Sasha admits that the single may be viewed as controversial by some but says that there is no denying that the situation is real.

The Real Talk artiste is no newcomer to the music industry.

In 2004, while still a secular artiste, she enjoyed international success with I'm Still In Love With You, a duet that she recorded with Sean Paul for his Dutty Rock album on Atlantic Records. The song topped reggae charts globally and peaked at Number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Although she has walked away from the secular stage since she embraced Christ as her Lord and Saviour, Sasha is not afraid of being judged on this project as it is reminiscent of her earlier recordings.

Judgemental tongues

"You will always have judgemental tongues. Jesus Christ himself did some unorthodox things, according to the scribes and Pharisees, so I am not worried," she said.

Commenting on the inspiration for recording the song, she explained that "15 per cent of church members are married men and five per cent are single men. When single Christian women go out there and face the world, they meet men with different beliefs and different cultures".

One of those kinds of men they will encounter are Rastafarians, and that, she said, would see them being faced with the issue of being unequally yoked.

"Knowing the Church and the principles, I believe that with God at the helm, all things are possible. And just maybe, that individual can be taught the way of Christianity and have a change of heart if the unbeliever is given a chance rather than shutting the door on them," she reasoned.

Real Talk, she says, is her way of giving her perspective on the controversial topic.

Sasha, who has recently returned from performances in Canada, England, Italy, and Dubai, is now back in Jamaica working on her new album, which is soon to be completed. She is also scheduled to perform at the St Ann Curry and Music Festival at Grizzly's Plantation Cove on Saturday, November 26, with headliners Beenie Man, Agent Sasco, Stitchie, Kevin Downswell, Little Meekie, and Zagga.
