Free reggae concert to rock Trench Town - Marley brothers offer full support, set to perform

Sons of reggae legend Bob Marley - Damian, Stephen, Julian and Ky-Mani - will headline the 10th staging of the Trench Town Rock concert, which is free to the public.

The concert is being coordinated by the Trench Town Festival Committee and heavily supported by Damian and Stephen Marley.

On Saturday, February 11, starting at 7 p.m., the Boys' Town Community Centre will be the epicentre for the concert, in honour of the birthplace of roots, rockin' reggae - Trench Town.

This staging is symbolic, as the four brothers are joined by Ghetto Youths International artistes Wayne Marshall, Black Am I, and Christopher Ellis, along with Kelissa and Kabaka Pyramid. Roots rockin' reggae lovers can expect a mystical delivery from Sizzla, Richie Spice, Christopher Martin and Nittie Kutchie, and a militant showcase from dancehall generals Capleton, Agent Sasco, Junior Reid, and Bounty Killer.

Junior Lincoln, co-chairman, Trench Town Festival Committee, believes that the rich cultural background of Trench Town and the endorsement from the Marley Brothers, is symbolic for this staging of the event.

"The event started quite small for the people of Trench Town. Five years ago we moved from Vin Lawrence Park because of the growth in numbers. Trench Town is an international brand, and this event helps to reinforce to community members the rich legacy of music and the cultural heritage of Trench Town in an atmosphere of unity and love. The Marleys have assisted us over the years on this project, and this year their unified support speaks volumes."

Trench Town is home to Culture Yard, which was designated a protected national

heritage by the Jamaican Government on May 10, 2007. Culture Yard houses the 'Government Yard' where Bob Marley lived for much of his young adult life. Several of Jamaica's most prolific reggae and dancehall stars hail from the Trench Town community, including Bunny Wailer, Alton and Hortense Ellis, Ken Boothe, Joe Hagues, Heptones, Mighty Diamonds, and many more.
