The Accident and Emergency Unit at the Kingston Public Hospital has been relocated because of the power failure.

Some operations at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) have been disrupted following a power failure this afternoon.

The Chief Executive Officer at the KPH, Errol Greene said the failure occurred around 3 o’clock and electricians have been working since to restore electricity.

He said, however, they have not been successful and have advised that it may take some time as the restoration process will be pain-staking.

In the meantime, Greene says other critical sections of the hospital such as operating theatres have power and continue to operate.

But he said activities at the Accident and Emergency Unit has been relocated because of the power failure.

So far one patient in the Intensive Care Unit has been transferred to the University Hospital of the West Indies and another to the Victoria Jubilee Hospital.

Greene is advising that in the event of a accident patients should be sent there.
