Always Dreaming wins Kentucky Derby

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- Always Dreaming, the 9-2 joint favourite, has won the 143rd Kentucky Derby, pulling away from Lookin at Lee in the slop at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

Battle of Midway finished third in the 20-horse field. Always Dreaming, ridden by John Velazquez and trained by Todd Pletcher,  covered the 1 1/4-mile track in 2:03.59.

 The other joint favourite, Irish War Cry, ridden by Jamaica-born jockey Rajiv Maragh, placed 10th.
