Locomotive set for a big run
Sunrise-6 form players should have a good day at Caymanas Park tomorrow.
There are three solid bankers in the first six races with the Wayne DaCosta-trained LOOSE CANNON set to give punters a flying start in Race One for $550,000 claimers. The Carlton Watson-owned colt has been campaigning against far better company in the recent past and will have little trouble in putting away his five rivals.
After winning by five lengths in a 1300 metres race restricted to three-year-olds last December 2, LOOSE CANNON has placed second twice and third once in overnight company. In his last race, LOOSE CANNON (55kg), had a final time of 1:05.4 over tomorrow's 1100 metres distance, beaten by just over a length by lightweight LITTLE BIG HORN on January 20.
Now down in class after those promising runs, the Wayne DaCosta-trained colt should use his superior pace to outclass this field from very early.
The second, a 1500 metres event for five-year-olds and upwards, will be a match race between PHOTOGENIC and MAJOR FORCE. The two met over 1400 metres on January 31 with both finishing close up behind Hologram Shadow. MAJOR FORCE placed second after chasing the leader for the entire journey. The five-year-old horse will be in front early and could score a runaway win with jockey Dick Cardenas aboard.
ANOTHER VIGOROUS RETURN
Race Three is tailored for top-rated three-year-old gelding ANOTHER VIGOROUS who is returning after a near four-month break. In just two starts he has clocked times of 1:05.4 for 1100 metres (won) and 1:12.1 for 1200 metres (second) and with just 116lbs on his back and the competent rider Linton Steadman he should set off in front and make it a post to post affair. His main rivals are the American-bred fillies MY ELLE BELLE and SUPER SPARKLE. The latter is making her debut while MY ELLE BELLE, sent off the hot
1-4 favourite, looked a bit green in placing second to Christilano over 1000 metres straight on December 20 last year. Both have been working well to meet this engagement but ANOTHER VIGOROUS is very fast and has the handicaps in his favour.
The fourth, an 1100 metres race for three-year-old maidens, should be a very knotty affair but my selection is LOCOMOTIVE from the stables of Gary Subratie. Fitted with blinkers for the first time on January 27 LOCOMOTIVE was not disgraced in finishing fifth by eight lengths to Adonis in the 1000 metres straight Mercury Sprint. At the exercise track on February 4, LOCOMOTIVE'S 36.0 seconds for 600m was only bettered by ANOTHER VIGOROUS (35.0) and that is enough evidence to suggest the three-year-old colt is ready for a big run.
Take the well-handicapped MUSKETOON in Race Five and the third banker, BIG BLACK NATION, to complete the Sunrise-6 bet.
