Johann Heaven (left), president and CEO, Proven Wealth and Proven Fund Managers, looks on as Dr Jair Lyons, Crossfit Level 1 trainer, registered physical therapist and 876 Crossfit head coach, signs the Proven-876 Crossfit partnership agreement. The signing took place at the 876 Gym in St Andrew yesterday.

Johann Heaven, CEO and president of Proven Wealth and Proven Fund Managers Limited, and Dr Jair Lyons, owner/head coach of 876 Crossfit, are both convinced their new alliance will help grow the sport and boost interest.

Yesterday, Lyons' 876 Crossfit gym signed a sponsorship deal with Heaven's Proven Wealth worth US$3,000 for one year to assist with equipment. But while Heaven believes it will improve the overall health and wealth of clients, Lyons said it can also benefit the world class athlete to the common man.

"We are a wealth-management company. We manage the portfolio and wealth of clients and this is an excellent partnership. We saw this as a great opportunity to get our clients in an avenue to build them as a whole, rather than just their financial side," Heaven reasoned.

"It's a one-year sponsorship, worth U$3,000. It's for equipment, to build the gym and help spread the crossfit word across Jamaica," he added.

Meanwhile, Lyons said the partnership will be beneficial to both parties.

"Proven is a powerhouse in the financial community. They have a lot of exposure and we are trying to grow 876 Crossfit and (the sport of) crossfit, so partnering with them will give us a little exposure.

"We want to expose employees and clients to Crossfit, so that they can expose other people to continue the growth. So the partnership with Proven is extremely beneficial," he said.

According to Lyons, Crossfit is functional training done in a small area, which works on coordination, speed, agility, stamina, accuracy, flexibility, power and is useful for any sport

Since opening 876 Crossfit, Lyons said their numbers have doubled and even tripled and continue to grow at a steady pace.

"We are one year and six months old and we had to expand after a year to accommodate the interest and growth," he said.

Local junior tennis star Jenna Harrison is one of the many people who benefit from working out with Lyons. "The beauty about crossfit is it's not equipment intensive," Lyons pointed out. "There are few pieces of equipment ... it is more technique and movement driven."
