Lila Ike is a name that has been making the rounds on the local and international reggae circuit in recent times. The singer has been mesmerising music lovers with a sound and flow that come almost effortlessly and a style unique to the woman she is at her core. Lila Ike is the protege of reggae singer Protege and is definitely one to look out for in the future. She's on the rise, and in this week's Five Questions With feature, learn a little bit more about the woman behind the voice.

 

1. What are three words that best describe Lila Ike's style of music?

 

Those three words would be down to earth. My music is old-school, fresh and relatable.

 

What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?

 

It's best they don't know. I prefer to keep that one to myself.

 

You're on track to becoming the next big female reggae artiste to come out of Jamaica. Did you ever think your music would get you to this level?

 

I had always hoped that when I put out songs they would be impactful and inspiring to people, so if being the next big female artiste means that I'm inspiring as much people as possible, then let it be!

 

4. Who is your biggest musical inspiration?

 

I have a couple actually. Growing up I always loved Michael Jackson and Garnet Silk! I'm also a very big fan of Queen Ifrica, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion.

 

If you could advise young women who are aspiring to be musicians but are being discouraged by family and friends, what would you say to them?

 

Open your mind and believe in yourself and what you want to do with your craft.
