St Catherine custos rewards excellence
St Catherine Custos Jeffery McKenzie on Thursday presented a plaque to the winning St Jago High School quiz team in recognition of their victory in the final of this year’s TVJ Schools’ Challenge Quiz competition.
The custos, who made the presentation during an inspirational devotion led by the volleyball squad, in which they stressed the theme ‘Be Your Brother’s Keeper,’ also gave cash totalling $70,000 to the team.
“We celebrate and reward excellence,” McKenzie said, while lauding the entire school population for the victory.
“St Jago High School has shown that it is an excellent school, and on behalf of the citizens of this parish, I wish to recognise this tremendous achievement,” he said.
McKenzie revealed that the initiative to reward excellence in the parish was started by him when he first became custos and has continued during his tenure, with many schools and other institutions being recognised for achieving excellence in various areas of endeavour.
St Jago principal Collette Feurtado-Pryce, who accepted the plaque on behalf of the quiz team, expressed her gratitude to the custos and his team for the gesture.
