Fay Hutchinson caring to success

If you know Fay Hutchinson, you must be aware of how caring, compassionate, and tender-hearted she is. It’s these qualities that help to make her the woman she is today and a victrix in the corporate world selling health insurance.
“For me, insurance is helping people. So, it comes naturally. And if the worst happens, when I hand over a cheque I feel a sense of pride, because I’m helping a family,” she said.
Hutchinson is an executive sales adviser at Guardian Life. She has been with the company since its inception and does not plan to go anywhere. Moving on from a successful chapter that was well spent at Air Jamaica as a flight attendant, Hutchinson, who completed the 56 Love Birds, ventured into the health insurance field by chance in 1995.
A true champion
In the beginning she was hesitant, testing the waters, especially after her first prospective client went missing at sea. She thought it must have been a bad omen and an open door to exit the industry. But, like a true champion, she continued the journey. At the end of six months, she closed the period as rookie of the year and landed her first of many Million-Dollar Round Table qualifications.
The kind-hearted and heedful right-hand woman was conferred with an Order of Distinction in the rank of Officer in October by the Government for her contribution to insurance.
“I’m often asked what keeps me going. Success is not an option, it’s mandatory. Why would you want to fail? And it’s when we set our goals and persist to maintain the focus and plan our lives that everything else falls into place. So you must plan,” Hutchinson explained.
With more than 20 years’ experience in the health insurance field, she is happy to see how the area has evolved.
According to Hutchinson, her family is her driving force. The mother of one, who has been married for 40 years, considers her family as the one thing in the world that she cannot exist without.
Hutchinson enjoys spending her spare time giving back. So, she is always looking forward to delivering care packages to those in need and serving a meal to the homeless.
Women, here’s her advice to you: Be yourself. Be real. Be authentic. Sometimes we feel it is necessary to project a particular image and we can’t live up to it. So if you live a life of a lie, as sure as the night follows the day, it will not hold. So be natural, sincere, caring, loving, and treat people as you want to be treated.
