HER fans have been waiting for a long time and the fair-sized crowd at the St Elizabeth Technical Invitational yesterday got something special from Edwin Allen High’s Kevona Davis. Taking to the track for the first time since May 2019, she clocked an impressive meet record time of 22.86 seconds in the Class One girls 200 metres.

Davis, competing in Class One for the first time, was stunned by her performance.

“I couldn’t believe when I heard the time as I came here to run 24 seconds. To God be the glory for helping me in my recovery and now I am healthy. My objective this season is to run better and better and once I remain healthy this will be done,” she said. The Rusea’s pair of Seleica Mykes (23.92) and Aaliyah Francis (23.96) were second and third, respectively.

Coach Michael Dyke was also shocked by Davis’ fast time.

“I had my stop watch and when I saw the time I put it into my pocket as I figured that I started it too early,” he said

There was also a record run from an Edwin Allen athlete in the Class Two event. Brandy Hall stopped the clock at 23.52 to win ahead of teammates Tia Clayton (23.91) and Serena Cole, 24.56.

Another big performance from Edwin Allen’s girls came in the 4x800m open as the quartet of Jessica McLeod, Kayon Green, Abbigail Pinnock and Rushana Dwyer destroyed the field to win in a record 9:12.91. Spalding High (9:22.87) and St Jago 9:42.12 ended second and third, respectively.

Manchester High athletes, led by Shevanese Thomas in Class Two, shared some of the spotlight. The Dwayne Jarrett-coached athlete raced to an impressive record 55.22 seconds in the 400m to take the event ahead of her teammate Roshell Rowe who was second overall in 56.73 with Edwin Allen’s Kacian Powell third in 57.39. Earlier, Thomas finished second overall in the 800m in 2:20.66, behind Aneisha Lawrence of Bellefield who clocked 2:17.35. Lawrence also won the 1500m in 4:44.85.

Manchester’s Zadrian Barnes was also among the record breakers. He stopped the clock at 48.35 seconds to win the Class One boys 400m, ahead of Antowan Robinson of Lacovia (48.92) with Chay Whyte of Rhodes Hall placing third in 49.28.

Home team St Elizabeth Technical were very impressive in the 4x800m for boys as they turned back two strong teams, Kingston College and Edwin Allen, to win in a record 7:46.49. Kingston College 7:50.32 and Edwin Allen 7:54.65 were second and third, respectively.
