Jamaican pop and reggae singer Naomi Cowan is back with a new video for the song Holiday following the release of her StarGirl mixtape with Major Lazer last year. Produced by Crate Classics and Tessellated, the infectious track is the auditory version of “a love so dynamic it feels like a holiday”.

Filmed in Brooklyn, NY, directed by Yoram Savion (Apple, Red Bull, Sundance Film Festival, Adidas) and styled by Anya Swapp and Courtney Blackwell, the video shows a woman happily in love with life while adorned in fashion forward looks that embody her Caribbean heritage, with a splash of 90s dancehall flavour and Barbie vibes.

“Naomi and I agreed we wanted an uplifting and natural feel to the video,” said Savion, “so we conceptualised the whole story to take place within a couple blocks of the same BedStuy neighbourhood. We of course wanted to show Naomi’s style, and energy and roller-skate skills.”

“Personally, the song is a reflection of the kind of love and romance I want to see manifested in my life,” says Naomi Cowan. I feel like I see so many people get together because it ‘makes sense’ on paper, but in spirit there’s no authenticity, no vibrancy or joy. Unconditional love does take a lot of work, time and patience. I feel like there should always be a magical, ethereal, pure energy to it that you and your partner can return to when times get tough. So when I heard the beat, I kinda imagined disappearing into a different dimension with someone. You know when you spend time with someone and the time passes so quickly because y’all are so into each other? Yea, it’s a holiday,” she concludes.

Holiday follows previously released singles Lucky Me, Energy, Santa Claus Do You Ever Come to the Ghetto? along with a series of visualisers that tell the story of the StarGirl mixtape. Naomi has more music in store this year and recently recorded a duet with reggae legend Shaggy. She recently performed for TD Bank’s TD Music at Union Station and at the Cali Vibes Music Festival.
