Missed chances deny Humble Lion
Humble Lion's head coach, Andrew Price, was left ruing his team's missed chances after they conceded an added time goal in a 1-1 draw against Tivoli Gardens in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Arnett Gardens yesterday.
Kemar Mullings put Humble Lion in front in the 49th minute, but Keno Simpson secured a point for the west Kingston-based Tivoli Gardens with a late strike.
However, Humble Lion had only themselves to blame as Omar Dallas and Lorenzo Lewin had the two best chances in the first half, with Lewin putting a very easy chance wide from six yards.
Barrintin Price also had a good chance for Tivoli Gardens but he headed wide from six yards from a free kick.
Four minutes after the break, Dallas broke inside the box, and although his shot was parried by goalkeeper Kewong Watkins of Tivoli Gardens, Mullings was on hand to push the ball across the line.
Humble Lion missed a number of chances afterwards to put the game out of the reach of their opponents. Ricko Edwards had a header cleared off the line then Andre Clennon wasted a good chance when he decided to chest-control the ball instead of heading towards goal, and moments later he headed Xavean Virgo's free kick over from six yards.
Goalkeeper Watkins denied Dallas' low strike after he broke loose and Kareem Bryan missed the easiest of them all when he put the ball wide with the goal at his mercy in the 85th minute.
Simpson made them pay for those misses when he equalised three minutes into injury time, turning home a quick pass from six yards.
"We dominated for long periods and we got a quick start to get the go-ahead goal. But the players have to understand, they must concentrate for 90-plus minutes.
"We had enough chances where we could have had control of the game much earlier, but there are small margins in winning games, and when you get them (goals), you have to put them away," he said.
Despite not having the best of games, Tivoli Gardens' technical director, Glendon 'Admiral' Bailey, said his team showed character to get the point.
"I dont think we gave ourselves enough chances to take the three points, but we showed character and didn't give up, and the changes made a difference also," he said.
Tivoli stay eighth with 14 points and Humble Lion remain 11th with 10 points.
In the second game at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex, Arnett Gardens scored twice with 10 men to clip Portmore United 2-1. Marlon Allen and Renaldo Cephas were the scorers for Arnett Gardens. Ezran Simpson was the player sent off for Arnett Gardens while Keny Charleston got the consolation goal for Portmore United.
Other results: Dunbeholden 1 Montego Bay United 0; Molynes United 1 Vere United 1.
