FAVOURITES BIT the dust, no pun intended, on the resanded track, falling in rapid succession on Saturday’s 10-race card, including the Knutsford Park Cup won by 5-1 chance BUZZ CITY LIGHT.

Believing they would get some reprieve in the night pan after being hammered by upsetters all day, bar the eighth race won by SONNY T AND CHIPPY at odds of 3-5, punters watched in shock as 4-5 favourite NOMOREDEALS struggled throughout the six-furlong event.

Speedy BUZZ CITY LIGHT, conditioned by leading trainer Jason DaCosta, broke on top in the 14-horse field before being relegated by SUGAR DADDY, ridden by last Saturday’s St Leger-winning jockey, Raddesh Roman.

However, SUGAR DADDY stepped wide off the home turn and failed to quicken when champion jockey Anthony Thomas produced BUZZ CITY LIGHT along the rail.

BUZZ CITY LIGHT raced clear of SUGAR DADDY, who was afterwards swallowed by a wall of horses led by 6-1 chance JOSH claiming second ahead of PRINCE SANJAY and BUGATTI, running at odds of 52-1 and 55-1, respectively.

BUZZ CITY LIGHT clocked an understandably moderate 1:15.2 on a track running heavy for the first meet after three days’ resanding of the round course.

MISERABLE DAY FOR SOME

Ryan Darby’s BUNKSY BOY was the grandfather of upsetters on a miserable day for form players, striking at 86-1 in the seventh event at seven and a half furlongs with a jubilant Jemar Jackson standing tall at the wire.

A pair of 10-1 outsiders, EXPEDITIOUS and UNCLE FRANK, helped to upend the Reggae 6, topped off by VANQUISHER making every post a winning one in the sixth race, resulting in a $6.5 million carryover to this afternoon’s nine-race card.

All exotic bets closing on the Knutsford Park Cup were carried over, the superfecta, hi-five, Pick 4, Pick 5 and Twilight 6, which will open at $3.5 million this afternoon.
