Ten medals for Jamaica at Caribbean mini and pre-cadet TT Champs

JAMAICA HAS won two gold, four silver, and four bronze medals at the Caribbean Mini and Pre-Cadet Table Tennis Championships in Guyana.

On the event’s final day, on Tuesday, Ajani Spencer and Anthony Bird won the country’s second gold medal with a win in the under-11 boys doubles.

Spencer and Bird beat Abinora Johnson and Rainsford Benefield of Guyana 3-0 to open their account before cruising past the Trinidad and Tobago pair of Liam Rattoo and Liam Walters 3-0 in the semi-final. The final was a little more difficult, but the Jamaicans held Zion Hickerson and Hayden Muesa of the hosts at bay to win 11-4, 11-6, 4-11, 11-4.

The title concluded a fine outing for Spencer and Bird, who earlier, had combined to beat Trinidad and Tobago 3-1 to win the Boys’ Under-11 team title.

The hosts had a fine final day.

Malachi Moore and Ebo McNeil took the under-13 boys 3-0 over Jamaicans Logan Royes and Gmarco Smith, and Samara Sukhai and Jasmine Billingy came from behind in the girls equivalent to beat Jamaicans Kayan Denton and Keera Whyte, 7-11, 11-3, 13-11, 11-5.

Two titles went to St Lucia, thanks to Leshon Francis and Shatel Charles. Francis won the Boys’ under-11 section in straight sets over Jamaica’s Ajani Spencer, and Charles beat both Denton and Whyte en route to the under-13 girls’ crown.

Earlier in the tournament, the Sandra Riettie and Dale Parham-coached Jamaican squad collected silver in the girls under-13 team event and bronze in the under-13 boys’ event.
